IMS is seeking an experienced MORTUARY TECHNICIAN.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Receives, stores and releases bodies while ensuring adherence to prescribed procedure, as well as ensuring proper documentation. Ensures that the clothes and valuables of the deceased would similarly be documented and the chain of custody maintained
  • Liaises with the Pathologist regarding anyone indicating interest in gaining access into the morgue for the purpose of viewing bodies, deceased’s belongings or any records pertaining to postmortem examinations
  • Ensures that the morgue is adequately and properly cleaned in cooperation with housekeeping staff while strictly adhering to the specified guidelines
  • Makes certain that all equipment and instruments in use are in good state of repair and are optimally functional
  • Maintains a daily log of checks conducted on the coolers to ensure the stability of the prescribed temperature. Notifies appropriate maintenance staff immediately of any defects or problems
  • Assists the Pathologist as appropriate in conducting postmortem examinations and maintains a sanitary environment throughout. Ensures that all procedures and manipulations are carried out within a framework of dignity and care for the deceased

Qualifications & Registration required:

  • Certificate/Diploma in Mortuary Technology and Hygiene of the Royal Institute of Public Health and Hygiene or similar qualification from USA/Canada
  • 3 years post qualification experience in a morgue assisting with autopsies.
