We are now seeking an experienced EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN (EMT) PARAMEDIC
Key responsibilities
- Providing safe, evidence-based pre-hospital and intra-hospital care as part of the Emergency Department team.
- Operating ambulances in a safe, timely and efficient manner and responding to 911 emergencies and other requests for ambulance services.
- Triaging, assessing, monitoring and transporting patients within the hospital and community in accordance with EMS policies and guidelines.
- Communicating effectively with physicians, nurses, dispatch personnel and other emergency team members to support high-quality patient care.
- Administering emergency medications within scope of practice, including oxygen, Entonox and other approved medications as directed.
- Completing patient care reports, refusal forms and other required documentation accurately and promptly following each call.
- Ensuring ambulances, emergency equipment and gas cylinders are fully stocked, maintained, decontaminated and ready for use at all times.
- Supporting patient flow within the Emergency Department by assisting with triage, mobility, transport, monitoring, splints, collars, crutches, bandages and other emergency interventions.
- Assisting with advanced procedures where appropriate to training level, including airway support, IV access, blood collection and IV fluid administration.
Requirements
- High School Diploma, GED or suitable equivalent.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Emergency Medical Technician Certification required.
- Advanced Emergency Medical Technician Certification where applicable.
- National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification required for employees certified after the 2015 certification year.
- Eligible for registration with the Council for Allied Health Professionals.
- Valid Ambulance Driver’s Licence.
- Minimum of one year of EMT experience preferred.
- Physically strong, agile and dexterous, with the ability to meet the physical demands of the role.
